Medium: Pastel
Size: 16.5 by 17.75 inches
Notes: Completed June 30, 2019. This piece was inspired by the idea that humans might be less destructive to wildlife habitats if we anthropomorphized animals a little more. It reminded me of a mother washing her little boy’s face before he left for school for the first time.

This piece is part of a small 2019 pastel wildlife set exploring whether animals become harder to dismiss when we recognize familiar emotions, relationships, and family moments in them.

Like it’s companion piece, “Shhh….She’s sleeping”, this artwork focuses on the emotional connection between animals and the people viewing them. I wanted the interaction between the tiger mother and cub to feel familiar, affectionate, and a little humorous, while still honoring the beauty of the animals themselves.
