Notes: Completed November 2020 as a gift for my husband. Inspired by our winter walks in Tennessee and the cardinals we often see along the way.
We go on a lot of walks together, and in the cold months we love watching the cardinals flit around us as we walk. My husband is from California, so he didn’t grow up seeing cardinals this way. He didn’t know them as winter companions until we moved to Tennessee.
That reminded me of my own fascination with them when I was growing up in Ohio. Cardinals are like the lightning bugs of winter. They show up brightly against the greenless landscape, little red sparks in the bare branches.
