Aliki Martin’s Story
Imagine what it’s like to grow up in a family that isn’t human. You’re raised by aliens who adore you in their own peculiar way but always seem to regard you with a sort of bemused affection, like an exceptionally clever houseplant. That’s my protagonist’s, Aliki Martin’s, reality: she’s a human raised by a family who loves her dearly but can’t help seeing her as a charming, if slightly baffling, oddity. Now she’s back on Earth, a place she’s supposed to belong, only to find she’s not entirely sure how this “life on Earth” thing is supposed to work.
