The drawing is of my two sons when they were young, based on a photograph I adored. I wanted to see if I could capture their likenesses in graphite, especially the softness of their faces, the brightness in their eyes, and that fleeting expression children have before they grow into entirely new versions of themselves.
At the time, I was drawing two small boys from a beloved photograph. Now they are men. Time has done its usual impossible trick: moving slowly while you’re living it, then vanishing behind you like a stagehand with suspiciously quiet shoes.
This portrait still matters to me because it holds a particular moment in their lives, and in mine. It is not just a study in likeness. It is a record of attention, affection, and the strange ache of seeing how quickly the years gather themselves and move on.
