Shhhh…She’s Sleeping!

Soft pastel drawing of a gorilla holding a sleeping baby gorilla, with soft green foliage in the background.

Medium: Soft pastel
Size: 17.75 by 21.75 inches (framed)
Notes: Completed July 13, 2019 for a local art show. This piece was inspired by the idea that humans might be less destructive to wildlife habitats if we anthropomorphized animals a little more. I wanted to emphasize tenderness, protection, and the familiar bond between parent and child.

This piece is part of a small 2019 pastel wildlife set exploring whether animals become harder to dismiss when we recognize familiar emotions, relationships, and family moments in them.
